I started riding young, but I knew horses were my life the day Bunny asked me to ride her mare, Faith. Not many people got along with Faith. I said yes, and I fell in love with her.
Faith was the challenge I needed. She taught me that things won't always go your way, and that patience with yourself and your horse is where progress starts. She made me more optimistic, and more confident in the saddle.
Then came Butters, who taught me to let go of my expectations and let what is meant to happen, happen. Both lessons shape how I help riders today.
Some days at the barn stay with you. Once, bringing the herd down from the field, the horses broke into a gallop and Lady carried me with them. I felt like I was flying, and I had never felt so free. That same afternoon I helped lead a drill for our beginner riders on Butters. Watching them pick it up fast, and have fun doing it, is the other half of why I do this.
Not every ride goes to plan. On my first trail ride I was on a horse I didn't know yet, and I wasn't expecting her to jump a pole we went over. I flew over and to the side of her. That taught me to always expect the unexpected, so I can do everything to stay safe.
People say I'm confident with a gentle touch. I believe horses have off days, just like we do, so I meet every horse and every rider where they are that day.
Where I ride
I help Bunny teach riders at Anything Horse, her ranch. Every lesson follows a clear riding path, so you always know your next step.
What I'm working on
Right now I'm refining my cues, so every horse knows exactly what I'm asking. I'll keep learning for as long as I ride.
Where I'm headed
My dream is to spend my life with horses, training them and caring for them. I plan to study veterinary science, and every day at the barn is part of that path.
Why I help young riders
I remember being the new rider. I want every young rider to find what Faith gave me: the joy of being around horses, and the confidence that comes with it. If I can be someone they look up to, I'll make it count.
